The main attraction “Mahabharat Reinterpreted – Ateet ki Parchhaiyan is a 105 minute long production conceptualized and choreographed by Nrutyaguru Pt. Shama Bhate. The ruminations are executed through powerful dances, strong music and exquisite expressions in this dance-drama which uses a blend of seven Indian classical dances viz: Odissi, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam, Kathakali, Bharatnatyam, Chhau and Kathak. Each dance form has a different style of music. Narendra Bhide has homogenised the music and the lighting is by Harshavarhan Pathak.
The great war of the Mahabharata has ended and each character is looking back and introspecting and analysing “Was what I did the reason this destruction happened could it all have been avoided” they ask themselves. This is depicted through the amalgamation of dance forms in one story. Each dance form has a different tempo, a different aesthetic, different music and different costumes. The inclusion of seven dance styles incorporates all the conflicting values, ideals and philosophies that these characters represent. The epic’s main characters will be performed by prominent dance masters like Draupadi (Ameera Pathankar – Kathak), Kunti (Vyjayanthi Kashi – Kuchipudi), Gandhari (Gopika Varma – Mohiniattam), Yudhisthir (Ramli Ibrahim – Odissi), Bheeshma (Dr Kannan – Kathakali), Karna (Vaibhav Arekar – Bharatnatyam) and Duryodhan (Rakesh Sai Babu – Chhau) disciples of ‘Nadroop’ will be the co-artists.
