Kolkata: The Coronavirus pandemic has impacted the world of events and the event management industry, requiring immediate and over-night transition to digital platforms. As webinars and electronic events flood digital media, event management industry giants, who were part of the #MediaNext 2020 Day 4 webinar on “Events and E-Events” on Thursday, felt that this is only temporary.

Adamas University, Kolkata is hosting this digital conclave – #MediaNext 2020, which is a series of webinars with industry stalwarts from various domains spread over 10 days, starting June 1 to 10. ABP Education is a partner of this webinar series. Today’s session was moderated by Prof. Ujjwal K Chowdhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Adamas University, Kolkata.

Organised by Adamas University in association with Sharda University, Birla Global University, DME, AIMEC, Lok Samvad Sansthan, Exchange4media and IndiaReal, the digital conclave revolves around the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the media and entertainment industry.

Lalitt Gattani, founder of Showcraft Productions, said, “Mothers are the best event managers. They do so much work and don so many hats simultaneously.” He called event managements a military operation, where the managers are commandos performing a surgical strike. An event manager needs to be an expert in a wide range of fields. The five aspects that make a good event manager are: composure under stress, attention to detail, lone warrior, hopeless optimist and x-factor.

Lalit Gattani started his career as a graphic designer. Then he established his cable network named Prime Cable Network Pvt Ltd. He then created India’s first sovereign channels on cable for English movies & Ethical programming. He was also the creator of India’s first cable FM station and the Cable Tele Videos (India) Pvt Ltd. In the year 2000, he founded Showcraft, and with a great talent in the art of anticipation and creative planning, he has established his company as of today’s most progressive “Technology Inspired” agency in India. With a hard-core and dedicated production team, Lalit produced and conducted over 1200 shows all over the world from Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi to Shaheed Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi and from city Amphitheatre in Muscat to the Oakland Arena in California, USA.

Showcraft is one of the privileged agency which has the appellation of doing several world-famous events like world largest biryani which is still a Guinness world record. In the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak in where 150 fly lights flies in a swarm and created a beautiful image on the sky in the shape of ‘Omkar.’ They also did event management for the World toilet summit, which was conducted to discuss the world’s best sanitation solution for India. Under the supervision of Gattani Showcraft team has presented multifarious events, extending from selected viewers of 500 to a huge crowd of 15 lacs.

On being asked about the challenges of the event management industry in this COVID-19 pandemic, he said, “yes, for some time the on-ground events will not happen, there’s going to be a hybrid model or a combination of online and offline events. In fact, we are currently in the process of a major activation where the focus will be online. In terms of money, obviously, when things go online, sums of money come down drastically, but I feel its a temporary phase, events will come back; it is just a matter of time”.

According to him “Event management is something that you imagine, what you dream. It’s probably the only industry where you start from nothing; you start from a thought which comes to your mind, and then you put it on paper.

The 5Cs and 1D of an event, according to Lalitt Gattani, are: concept, coordination, control, culmination and closeout, and discipline. Intricate details make the best event, and paying attention to such things is the job of an event manager because “all smiles is goal.” “Multilevel multi-tasking multiplied multiple times is called Event Management,” he said.

And lastly, on being asked how to make events look large on a low budget, he smiled and answer, “now in this digital integration you can amplify your events and take it to the next level, and in terms of the physical aspects of events. Unfortunately, you need those budget to create things in that scale. he talks about as a case study of MTV’s CSR activity campaign named “dunk the junk” to give an example on how to create low budget events
