Kolkata: The Coronavirus pandemic has impacted the world of events and the event management industry, requiring immediate and over-night transition to digital platforms. As webinars and electronic events flood digital media, event management industry giants, who were part of the #MediaNext 2020 Day 4 webinar on “Events and E-Events” on Thursday, felt that this is only temporary.

Adamas University, Kolkata is hosting this digital conclave – #MediaNext 2020, which is a series of webinars with industry stalwarts from various domains spread over 10 days, starting June 1 to 10. ABP Education is a partner of this webinar series. Today’s session was moderated by Prof. Ujjwal K Chowdhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Adamas University, Kolkata.

Organised by Adamas University in association with Sharda University, Birla Global University, DME, AIMEC, Lok Samvad Sansthan, Exchange4media and IndiaReal.in the digital conclave revolves around the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the media and entertainment industry.

Deepak Choudhury, Co-founder and Director of Event Capital and EVENTFAQS Media, took on a similar note and pointed out that there are three things that a young aspirant of event management needs to be equipped with: their understanding of technology, digital platforms, and communities and Intellectual Properties. “Intellectual Property is building a community based on an ecosystem (common interests) to commodify it,” explained Deepak Choudhury.

The skill-set that the students aspiring to join the event management industry require to either have an affiliation towards or liking to be a conceptualiser, marketing, sales or business development and production of events. While the latter should not be the main focus at the start, the other three needs to be the primary focus. Getting an education for event management helps students in networking, working on events and training with professionals while they learn. It is definitely important, he said.
