ECI will announce Lok Sabha election dates tomorrow; Assembly elections of some states will also be declared
The confusion over the announcement of the dates of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has finally ended. The Election Commission will hold a press conference tomorrow i.e. on March 16 to announce the dates.
The dates of Lok Sabha elections in the country will be announced tomorrow i.e. on Friday. Along with this, assembly elections will also be announced in some states. It was told by the Election Commission that the schedule of Lok Sabha elections and some state assembly elections will be announced tomorrow. The Election Commission will announce this in a press conference at 3 pm. The tenure of the current Lok Sabha is ending on June 16 and before that the process of formation of the new government will have to be completed.
Along with the Lok Sabha elections, the dates of assembly elections of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh can also be announced. Along with this, will there be elections in Jammu and Kashmir or not? This will also become clear tomorrow. The announcement of election dates will be live streamed on ECI's social media platforms.
Elections were announced on March 10 in 2019
The last time the dates for Lok Sabha elections were announced was on March 10, 2019. At that time voting was held in seven phases in the country. The first round of voting took place on 11 April, while the seventh, i.e. the last round of voting took place on 19 May. The counting of votes took place on 23 May.
How were the results in 2019?
In the election results declared on 23 May 2019, BJP had got 303 seats. BJP was far ahead of the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha. With this victory, the party formed the government for the second consecutive time. The main opposition Congress had to be content with 52 seats. Whereas, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had got 24 seats. YSRCP and TMC were successful in winning 22 seats each.
