Shirwal Crime News | Police raid on Gutkha industry in Shirwal, Stock worth crores seized

Shirwal, Jeevan Sonawane: Local police have carried out a major operation on a godown in an elite society in the city and uncovered illegal gutkha and pan masala stockpiles. Notably, sophisticated machinery was being used for gutkha production at this place. This operation has created a stir in the area and is being discussed vigorously among the citizens.

The raid was conducted after the Shirwal police received confidential information. While inspecting the godown, goods worth Rs 1 crore 6 lakh 19 thousand 270 were seized. This includes machinery used for gutkha production and a four-wheeler (value: Rs 4.50 lakh). The police have detained four persons during this operation and further investigation is underway.

This major operation took about 12 to 15 hours. The process of registering a case was going on till late night.

Details of how long gutkha production and storage had been going on have not yet been revealed. However, the police have started an investigation to find the main perpetrators of this illegal business. This operation has made it clear that gutkha is being sold on a large scale despite the ban on its sale in Maharashtra.

Under the guidance of Satara Superintendent of Police Sameer Sheikh, Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Vaishali Kadukar, Phaltan Police Sub-Divisional Officer Rahul Dhas, Police Inspector Yashwant Nalawade of Shirwal Police Station, Assistant Police Inspector Mahadev Shid, as well as Police Anmaldar Sachin Veer, Arvind Barhale, Suraj Chavan, Tushar Abhang, Deepak Palepawad and officers of the Food and Drug Administration participated in this operation.
