Senior BJP leader and former chief minister Kalyan Singh has died of sepsis and organ failure. He was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Sanjay Gandhi Medical Postgraduate Education Hospital. His condition worsened on Friday and he breathed his last on Saturday.
Kalyan Singh has twice been the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state. He later served as the Governor of Rajasthan. Kalyan Singh was the Chief Minister at the time of demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. The incident caused a stir across the country. Due to this incident, the social and political history of the country took a different turn and the importance of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the politics of the country increased rapidly.
After the demolition of the Babri Masjid, the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao dismissed the state government and Kalyan Singh resigned. Senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Kalyan Singh were also accused of being involved in the conspiracy to demolish the Babri Masjid. Last year, the court acquitted all of them.
Even when the Babri Masjid fell, I fulfilled my responsibility as the Chief Minister. However, he had supported that the anger that had been suppressed in the minds of thousands of Hindus for hundreds of years erupted and the mosque was demolished I was the one who ordered not to fire. If I had ordered the firing at that time, thousands of lives would have been lost," he said.
