Central Government's Affidavit in the Supreme Court

New Delhi / Correspondent

The central government has given an affidavit to the apex court that a special committee will look into the case of Pegasus spyware being infiltrated into mobile phones. The affidavit was filed during the hearing of a petition filed in the matter.

The affidavit was filed during the hearing of a petition filed in the matter. The petition seeks an inquiry into the matter through the Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of the Supreme Court. During the hearing of the petition, the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information Technology, on behalf of the government, filed a two-page affidavit in the court.

The government has been accused of buying Pegasus spyware from Israel's NSO group and illegally monitoring opponents, journalists, critics and businessmen, including some of its own ministers. The allegations had disrupted the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament during the monsoon session. So the session was wrapped up. On the last day of the convention, a chaotic situation prevailed in the Rajya Sabha.

The government has rejected all Pegasus related  allegations in parliament. Opposition groups alleged that Government is trying to stop them to demonstrate. Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court seeking an inquiry into the matter.
