The morning of Sunday 8th December 2019 dawned with the sounds of shehnai, floral decorations and festive atmosphere, at the much awaited annual event of the year, Mass Marriage ceremony of Punyadham Ashram, a project of Vishwa Jagriti Mission Trust. This year 19 young couples tied the nuptial knot in the presence of more than 6000 people, from far & near. This is the 5th year that this unique function has been organized where till now 77 couples coming from humble families – farmer suicide, physically and visually challenged or orphans from all over Maharashtra are married.

19 brides and grooms with their families & friends arrived and were all given their wedding attire for the most special day in their lives! The brides looked radiant in Gold-Red sarees, beautifully adorned jewelry and the grooms smartly dressed in ‘Sherwanis, phetas & mojris’. Soon it was time for ‘baraat’ when all the 19 grooms arrived in beautifully decorated chariots, with the band playing loudly and all the ‘baraatis’, joyfully dancing together. It was indeed a grand celebration!

The day became even more special with the gracious presence of Shri Dilip Deshmukh, Joint Charity Commissioner, Dr Vijay Bhatkar, Rashmi & Satish Mahajan from Ludhiana, Sarita Sadarangani from Hong Kong, Shalini & Ram Nandwani from the Carribeans, Ex-Mayor of Pune Prashantdada Jagtap, Ranjanatai & Yogesh Tilekar ex-MLA, Nandatai Lonkar, Sangitatai Thosar, and many more.

After the ‘varmala’, ‘kanyadaan’ and all the other rituals it was time for our Chairperson Maa Krishna Kashyap, President Sadananda Shetty, the Trustees, the special guests to bless the young couples with gifts and trousseau- consisting of daily use utensils, dinner sets, blankets, new sarees and salwar-kameez sets. That’s not all – it was a wonderful moment  when couples who were married a few years ago, came with their babies to seek Maa’s blessings!

“Every year Punyadham Ashram organizes Mass Marriage of girls whose families cannot afford the expenses of an elaborate wedding. The girls are supported to fulfil their dreams of having a beautiful wedding ceremony with their families & friends”, smiles Maa Krishna Kashyap, who has made ‘Service to God through Service to Humanity’ her mission in life!

Sumptuous delicious lunch was enjoyed by everyone including the young couples and soon it was time for the ‘bidaai’ ceremony, when the newly-weds took blessings from Maa and promised to make a new life of happiness together.

Such noble acts of kindness & generosity are imprinted in minds and become forever cherished memories to all who were part of this unique initiative.
