Most of the film is taken up with looking at the truly amazing Buddhist temples that populate the city, and that are adorned with wonderful frescos, reliefs, sculptures and architecture. We also see the Royal Palace and the local streets and houses.
Luang Prabang used to be the capital city until it was moved to Vientiane in the 16th century. Its period of dominance in the life of the country gave rise to many illustrious temples being built there, and since 1995 it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
