Russia's Massive Assault on Ukraine: The war between Russia and Ukraine has intensified once again. Ukrainian officials have revealed shocking new information, stating that Russia has launched one of its biggest attacks on the capital city, Kyiv, using a massive number of drones and missiles. The attack has claimed the lives of two people and left at least 15 injured. Authorities say this is Russia’s largest attack on Ukraine since the war began in February 2022.
According to officials, Russia launched a staggering 805 drones during this assault. Following the attack, smoke was seen billowing from the roof of a government building in Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnatconfirmed the scale of the attack, describing it as the largest offensive since the start of the war. Alongside the drones, 13 different types of missiles were also launched. Ukraine’s defense systems managed to shoot down 747 drones and four missiles.
As of Sunday, nine missile and 56 drone attacks had occurred across 37 locations in Ukraine.
Attack on Cabinet Headquarters
According to the Associated Press, smoke was seen rising from the roof of a government building, though the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed. However, if it was caused by a strike, officials believe Russia is the likely perpetrator, given its history of targeting government infrastructure.
The building in question is reportedly the Ukrainian Cabinet Headquarters, where several ministers’ offices are located. After the incident, police and fire personnel cordoned off the building. Ukrainian officials confirmed that two people diedand 15 others were injured in the attack.
"We Can Rebuild Buildings, But Not Lives"
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko stated that this is the first time a direct attack has caused significant damage to a government building. “We will rebuild the structures. But the lives lost cannot be brought back,” she said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that debris from Russian drones fell on buildings in Sviatoshynskyi and Darnytskyi districts, resulting in severe damage.
Timed Amid Diplomatic Pressure on Russia
Notably, this largest-ever attack came at a time when European leaders were intensifying diplomatic pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war. The timing has raised serious concerns and has led to the failure of several peace efforts initiated by Europe and the United States. All eyes are now on how Ukraine will respond to this massive assault.
