Pawar's Resignation: Bouncer or Googly?

Mumbai / Shrikant Tilak

Sharad Pawar is considered to be the senior, mature and hardcore politician of the country. NCP leaders along with their allies in the Maha Vikas Aghadi like the Uddhav Thackeray group believe that when the party and the country need him, he will reconsider his decision to resign and take the initiative to lead the party again. Therefore, political circles are curious about whether Pawar's resignation will actually be a bouncer or a googly.

After Pawar announced his resignation as party president, all the senior party leaders requested Pawar to reconsider his decision. Pawar, who initially refused it strongly, on seeing the insistence of the workers, stated that he would accept the decision of the committee appointed to take the decision of the party leadership. Among the leaders who requested Pawar to withdraw his decision to resign were leaders who were part of the committee like Praful Patel. Therefore, it is expected that this committee will request Pawar to withdraw his resignation and Pawar will accept it on the insistence of the workers.

Sanjay Raut, the MP and spokesperson of the Uddhav Thackeray group, an ally of the NCP in the Mahavikas Aghadi and considered close to Pawar, has predicted the same possibility. At one point in Shiv Sena's political journey led by Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray, Balasaheb was nervous about politics. He decided to resign from the post of Shiv Sena chief. However, Balasaheb could not avoid the insistence of the then Shiv Sena leaders and activists. He withdrew his decision to resign. Recalling this incident, Raut has hinted that the same will happen again in the case of Pawar.
