Human Sacrifice Act should be effectively implemented in the state - Former CM Prithviraj Chavan

Karad / Representative

Former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan asked a question in the Legislative Assembly about the incidents of human sacrifice in the state through "justice issue" and suggested to the Government that the rules of this law should be made immediately for the effective implementation of the human sacrifice law in the state.

On December 6, 2023, a technician's wife and ten-year-old nephew were murdered in a superstitious manner in Hundapuri village of Bhamragad taluk of Gadchiroli district. The concerned mantriker was a 60-year-old technician who was giving different kinds of medicines to the people, but the people of the village brutally murdered the mantriker, his wife and his cousin as they were suffering from it without any benefit, said the former Chief Minister in the Assembly. Prithviraj Chavan drew the attention of the hall to a very important topic.

Also, let's give information about some similar incidents in the state. Prithviraj Chavan said that in Malegaon in July 2023, Krishna Anil Sonawane killed an 8-year-old boy by slitting his throat for secret money, and in 2019, Prateek Vishweshwar, a 9-year-old boy, was sacrificed in Mangalvedha. In a village in my taluka, a 12th grade girl was killed, it is said that her parents did it on the advice of a technician. The matter is still not resolved.

Before 2014, when there was a coalition government in the state, the Maharashtra Prevention of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhumane and Aghori Practices and Witchcraft Act was passed in the year 2013. That, though the Rape Act was passed in 2013, there is no effective implementation of the Act as the Act has not been enacted. Therefore, it is not yet understood how exactly this law should be implemented. According to 2021 figures, one human victim is killed every month in Maharashtra.

The information that 13 human victims have been killed in twelve months is understood based on the information of Andhashraddha Nirmulan. Professor Shyam Manav is doing a very good job in this regard. Maharashtra is the first state in the country to have a law against human sacrifice. After this, the states of Karnataka and Kerala made laws, but they have made rules in their own states. Still in Maharashtra, effective implementation of this law is not taking place due to non-regulation of this law. Therefore, we request the government through the issue of justification to this very important event, to immediately make rules regarding this human sacrifice law and to implement this law effectively and to publish the statistics of the year according to this law so that we will understand how much this law is being used in our state.
