Pune Cyber Crime: Fake Call Center Busted, 100 Detained for Cheating Americans

In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, Pune police have busted a fake call center in Kharadi, detaining 100 individuals for allegedly cheating American citizens through fear calls and digital arrest scams. The call center, operating under the name BPS & Consultancy LLP, was raided by the cyber police, who seized 61 laptops and 41 mobile phones.

The accused, mostly from Gujarat, would call Americans, posing as law enforcement officials, and extort money by threatening them with fake digital arrests. Five individuals have been arrested, and the police are interrogating the others to uncover more details about the racket.

In this type of cyber scam, fraudsters pose as police officers, CBI agents, or other authorities, using video calls to create an illusion of legitimacy. They threaten victims with false allegations, making them fear for their safety and relatives, and coerce them into parting with money.
