Dr. Dilip Deshpande, Founder President EDARCH (Entrepreneurship Development And Rehabilitation Centre for the Handicapped), an Pune based NGO, was honoured with the Vocational Excellence Rotary Award by Rotary Club of Pune Royal on 3rd August 2019 at BMCC.
Deshpande was felicitated at the hands of Padmashree Lila Poonawalla, in the presence of Hon. MLA Medha Kulkarni, Chief Guest, Dr. Deepak Shikarpur (IT Expert/Author), Guest of Honour and Shalaka Bhalerao, President, Rotary Club of Pune Royal.
An accomplished professional, Deshpande was honoured with the award to acknowledge his contribution in supporting specially-abled people with their Skill Development and making them employable, through EDARCH.
In an emotional speech, Deshpande humbly accepted the award and besides thanking his wife Chitra and family for their unstinted support, dedicated this award to his family at EDARCH. “Specially-abled persons have been blessed with divine strengths, which gives them the creative skills which can be further developed to perform better than normal people. They are a team that work together – visually impaired, mentally challenged, hearing impaired and physically challenged. And collectively they produce 17 to 18 plastic components for companies like KOEL, Kadambari Autoparts, to name some. It gives them a great sense of pride to be employed and earn a living for themselves and their family”.
Lila Poonawalla complimented him for his noble initiative and the great work which he is doing, not as a duty but coming from his heart. She advised him to use social media to highlight and expand his activities.
Deepak Shikarpur expressed, “Skilling is important for employability for all ages. Become a job giver and not job seeker”.
Medha Kulkarni, MLA too lauded him for his dedication to the rehabilitation of the specially-abled and on hearing that Deshpande’s dream is to make a Corporate Park for them, she extended whatever support from Government that she could offer to make it happen.
Deshpande has recently obtained a D.Litt from California University, USA for his exemplary work.
