Hyderabad – The students, Alumni and Management, of Osmania Medical College, took on the initiative to spruce up and beautify the OMC campus and make its ambience on par with the best medical colleges. As part of it, Chief Guest Sri Eatala Rajender garu, Hon’ble Minister for Health, Govt. of Telangana; unveiled two attractive landmarks in the campus, the “Doctor’s sculpture” & “Outstanding OSMECOS ‘77 Square” on Monday at Osmania Medical College campus, Koti. Present on the occasion were Guests of Honour Dr Ramesh Reddy, Director of Medical Education, Telangana; Dr P. Shashikala Reddy, Prinicpal, Osmania Medical College; Dr Ravinder,Chairman, OMC Alumnus Trust; Dr Tapadia, President, OMC Alumnus Association; Dr Vijay Anand Reddy, Alumni member & Director, Apollo Cancer Institute; Dr Krishna Reddy, Secretary, Alumni Trust; Dr. Lakshman Rao, Vice Principal; several prominent alumni and students.
Since Prinicipal Dr Shashikala Reddy, took over the reins of the Osmania Medical College, she was instrumental in initiating several new developments in the academics and over all image building of this prestigious institution. Some initiatives taken up in the recent past are:
- The creation of the several designated parking spaces have enabled not only an ordered parking system but has also resulted in significantly widened walkways.
- The numerous trees and plants planted around campus over the past one year have made our surroundings lush green, and are a testament to our Principal’s commitment to environmental health.
- A serene Buddha statue, has lent a tranquil ambience to our reading rooms and library.
- The security of the women’s hostel has been fortified with the construction of compound wall and gate for the entire hostel complex, thereby ensuring girl students safety.
- A fabulous cobblestone square in front of the auditorium for college events, with three Laughing Buddha statues with messages for students to maintain cool, calm and happy demeanor in most trying conditions.
- The “Outstanding Osmecos Square” sponsored by 1977 batch is a creation par excellence by Dr Shashikala Reddy and Vijay Anand Reddy, in their signature style, will be inscribed in stone in the college’s history, as a symbol of their evergreen love for OMC, and serves a perfect inspiration for students to have a peaceful and serene life.
- In this era of atrocities on doctors, the young aspirants are skeptical of joining the medical profession. Irrespective of some disgruntled section of society taking law into their hands, doctor profession continues to be noble. To inspire and instill confidence in their profession and inspire dedication in their service to humanity, our principal Dr Shashikala planned and got an exquisite “The Doctors bust “ with the Hippocrates oath, inscribed on it.
Dr Vijay Anand Reddy joined hands with Dr Sashikala, in the mission and they together transformed the college into a unbelievable beautiful campus. Today the Campus can give many a private colleges a run for their money. Dr Vijayanand Reddy is the brainchild behind the entire project, they both spent virtually every weekend for the last one year at OMC, while personally supervising the ongoing works and bringing them to this shape. Without the help of an architect or an engineer, Dr Vijayanand Reddy single handedly designed the campus, supervised and executed.
