A piece of cake of the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana has fetched a whopping  1,800 poundes at auction. Even after 40 years of marriage, the auctioneer's eyes widened in surprise at the price of the piece.

This piece is one of the 23 cakes that Charles and Diana, the royal couple, served with their own hands for the guests at their wedding. The British royal insignia on this piece is highlighted in icing in gold, silver, blue and red.

Moya Smith, one of the female employees of Britain's Queen received the cake. She wrapped it in a strong film and kept it and also dated July 29, 1981. She put the wrapped cake in a tin can and wrote on it, 'Handle carefully; Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding cake! '

Smith's family sold the cake to a collector in 2008. From him it came to an auction house. Many people from all over the world bid for this piece. The cake was bought by Gary Lighton for 1,800 pounds at an auction on Wednesday. We estimated that this piece of cake would fetch a maximum of 500 pounds.
