Meeting on Redevelopment of PMGP Buildings to Be Held Within a Month–Minister Shambhuraj Desai

Mumbai, July 7 : A meeting regarding the redevelopment of buildings under the Prime Minister’s Housing Project (PMGP) will be held within a month, informed Minister Shambhuraj Desai during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly. The meeting will include members of the committee of public representatives and senior officials from MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority).

The issue was raised by MLA Harish Pimple, with additional sub-questions posed by members Amin Patel, Yogesh Sagar, and Jyoti Gaikwad.

Minister Desai stated that a redevelopment proposal had earlier been submitted by the Umar Khadi Rehabilitation Committee. However, the required consent from private property owners was not attached. As a result, the inclusion of privately-owned buildings in the group redevelopment scheme was deemed unfeasible by the MHADA board and the committee was informed accordingly.

Subsequently, on December 3, 2024, the committee submitted a revised proposal to MHADA that includes a total of 81 buildings. In response, MHADA has initiated a new feasibility study for the project and appointed an architect to assess the viability of the revised plan. The final course of action regarding cluster redevelopment will be based on the architect’s report, Minister Desai added.

Out of the 81 buildings proposed, 37 are owned by MHADA, while the remaining 44 are situated on private land. The redevelopment is planned as a cluster model; however, the necessary approvals from private owners are still pending. Given this, financial and technical consultants have been appointed to explore alternative solutions. Decisions on further steps will be taken based on their reports, Minister Desai concluded.
