BSP to Contest Elections Independently — Dr. Hulgesh Chalwadi
Progressive organisations should unite under BSP’s blue flag
Pune, August 7, 2025
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will contest the upcoming local self-government elections independently. Every party cadre is determined to gain power on its own in each city, said Dr. Hulgesh Chalwadi, BSP General Secretary and Chief In-Charge of the Western Maharashtra Zone, on Thursday (August 7).
Appealing to progressive thinkers across Maharashtra, he urged all organisations, individuals, and stakeholders who uphold the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji, Mahatma Phule, Shahu Maharaj, and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar to unite under BSP’s blue flag, symbolised by the elephant, and strengthen the party’s hands.
Dr. Chalwadi asserted that BSP has an independent and robust presence in every municipal corporation, district council, municipal council, and nagar panchayat across Maharashtra. The party structure is now active at the ward, locality, and block levels in preparation for the elections. He expressed confidence that with the support of party office-bearers, workers, and well-wishers, BSP will achieve success in the local body elections.
He sharply criticised both the ruling and opposition parties, claiming they have driven politics meant for social welfare to its lowest depths. Elected representatives, once voted in by the people, have forgotten the common citizen’s concerns, he alleged.
“Only politics is being played,” Dr. Chalwadi stated. “In this situation, voters must now prioritise BSP candidates to ensure justice for the common man.”
He also accused established parties of breaking parties for selfish political interests and poaching elected representatives. In contrast, he said, the BSP — a party dedicated 100% to social causes — has geared up at the grassroots level. The BSP cadre is ready to teach a lesson to established political forces, Dr. Chalwadi concluded.
