Kolkata: The Coronavirus pandemic has impacted the world of events and the event management industry, requiring immediate and over-night transition to digital platforms. As webinars and electronic events flood digital media, event management industry giants, who were part of the #MediaNext 2020 Day 4 webinar on “Events and E-Events” on Thursday, felt that this is only temporary.

Adamas University, Kolkata is hosting this digital conclave – #MediaNext 2020, which is a series of webinars with industry stalwarts from various domains spread over 10 days, starting June 1 to 10. ABP Education is a partner of this webinar series. Today’s session was moderated by Prof. Ujjwal K Chowdhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Adamas University, Kolkata.

Organised by Adamas University in association with Sharda University, Birla Global University, DME, AIMEC, Lok Samvad Sansthan, Exchange4media and IndiaReal.in the digital conclave revolves around the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the media and entertainment industry.

Sanjoy K Roy, the managing director of Teamwork Arts and the man behind the annual #JaipurLiteratureFestival (the world’s largest free literary festival) and he created the structure of literary fest in India, spoke on the 4th day of #Medianext 2020 online conclave.

Sanjoy Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts and creator of Jaipur Literary Festival, had an interesting discourse on the importance of the Arts in a socio-political atmosphere. Citing plenty of examples, he presented to his audience moments from his career where art and culture has had miraculous impact on society. He discussed few of his projects in countries like Australia, South Africa, Egypt and cities like London and New York where establishing artistic festivals and centres helped solve socio-political disputes.

“The only way to bring change is through knowledge and by bringing it to those who are deprived of it,” he said, discussing that the division of Art and Science in the education system is a flaw on its own. Scientific advancements and innovation cannot take place with creativity which in turn stems from artistic influences. The post COVID-19 world will definitely be different but it will lead towards responsible consumption and sustainable life choices. The digital platform might be the solution, now, but it cannot replace human interaction, he said
