Poonam Nikam; a child champion from ‘Healthy School environment– Right of Every child’ project, jointly implemented by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (GSK) and Save The Children, has been nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize by Netherland-based Kids Rights organisation.
This year 142 children from 42 countries, including Poonam, have been nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize. The final announcement of the award will be on 13 November 2020.
Sudarshan Suchi, CEO of Save the Children, congratulated the children, saying “At Save the Children, we believe that real and lasting change for Every Last Child is only possible when children are part of the process of making it happen! This spirit defines not just what we do but how we do it. We are immensely delighted to learn of the nominations of the four girls for this prestigious global award. These are children, often from marginalised communities and facing severe challenges of their own, who are committed to help other children, their communities and the nation at large. This recognition on national and international platforms gives change-makers, such as these children, a much-needed boost to carry on their work and also helps to draw more support for child rights.Celebrating them is celebrating hope and resilience of Every Last Child!”
This a proud moment for all of us. Poonam is passionate about sanitation and has emerged as a real role model for her fellow students and the community at large. Poonam is a shining example of how children can be catalysts for change and make a project truly sustainable. Swachhta Doots like Poonam are our child champions and I am extremely proud that her efforts have been recognised on a prestigious platform like the International Children’s Peace Prize. I wish her all the best! – Sridhar Venkatesh; Managing Director, India, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Limited
