European Union ambassador attacked, 180 people lost their lives in fighting between military forces for three days

Violence continues in Sudan between the military and the rebel paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) fighting for a coup. According to the United Nations, more than 180 people have lost their lives in this fight. At the same time, about 1800 people have been injured. Not only this, the EU Ambassador to Sudan Aidan O'Hara was also attacked. However, not much information has been revealed about this yet.

Not much information

Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin said the EU ambassador to Khartoum, Aidan O'Hara, was attacked at his home on Monday. At the same time, he termed this attack as a gross violation of the obligations of security of diplomats. According to media reports, he did not give details of the injuries suffered by the ambassador.

Clashes continue for third day

Significantly, the conflict between the country's army and a powerful paramilitary force over control of Sudan continued for the third consecutive day on Monday. Volker Perthes, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Sudan, told that 180 people have been killed in this conflict so far. At the same time, more than 1800 civilians and combatants have been injured. Khartoum's 5 million people are worried about electricity and water.

Call to cease fighting

Meanwhile, diplomatic pressure is mounting on Sudan to end the violence. Top diplomats including the US secretary of state, the UN secretary-general, the European Union's foreign policy chief, the head of the Arab League and the head of the African Union Commission called on both sides to end the fighting.

Fighting for control of Sudan
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he is speaking with leaders of the Arab League, the African Union and the region, urging them to end the conflict. Explain that the Sudanese army seized power in a coup in October 2021 and since then has been running the country through a sovereign council. Clashes between the country's army and a powerful paramilitary force over control of Sudan continued for a third straight day on Monday, killing more than 180 people in the past three days.

Agreed to stop the struggle for three hours

Earlier, pro-democracy group 'Sudan Doctors Syndicate' on Monday confirmed 97 deaths and told that hundreds of people were injured in this conflict. The clash comes after months of tension between the country's military and its former partner and now rival Rapid Support Force group (RSF). In a statement, the army, led by Abdul Fatah al-Burhan, ruled out talks with the RSF and called for its disbandment, calling it a "rebel militia". Meanwhile, the paramilitary group 'RSF' has described the chief of the armed forces as a 'criminal'. Both sides had agreed to stop the conflict for 3 hours on humanitarian grounds, but the violence did not stop.

At the same time, the acting director of the United Nations agency, Cindy McCain had said that in view of the security situation, all operations in Sudan will be pending for the time being. “WFP is committed to helping the Sudanese people who are facing severe food insecurity. We cannot operate here if the safety of our teams is not guaranteed. All parties must come to an agreement, that ensures the safety of humanitarian workers."
