Engineers Suspended for Premature Payment of ₹147 Lakh Before Construction Work – Minister Jaykumar Gore
Mumbai, 7 July 2025 : Two senior officials from the Zilla Parishad Construction Department in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district have been suspended for making a payment of ₹147 lakh to a contractor before any construction had begun. The payment was made for proposed works including a school building in Mauje Lasur and a Primary Health Centre in Mauje Gurudhanora.
Rural Development Minister Jaykumar Gore disclosed this information in the Maharashtra Legislative Council during the Question Hour. He stated that a preliminary inquiry revealed serious irregularities, following which the concerned Branch Engineer and Executive Engineer were suspended.
A departmental inquiry will be completed within two months, and further action will be taken based on the outcome, the minister confirmed.
The issue was raised by MLC Satish Chavan, with additional questions asked by Leader of Opposition Ambadas Danve, Advocate Anil Parab, and Bhai Jagtap.
Minister Gore explained that the payments were made despite the absence of photographs, test reports, or actual work on-site. Furthermore, the project’s measurement book recorded inflated figures, not matching the actual progress. “Even though proper procedures are clearly laid out, these payments were processed in violation of those norms,” the minister
