CM Eknath Shinde Assures Efforts to Grant Maratha Reservation Within Legal Framework
Mumbai - Chief Minister Eknath Shinde addressed the ongoing Maratha reservation issue, stating that the government is working to fit the subject within the legal framework. He emphasized that no reservation can survive without being enshrined in law.
Shinde highlighted the government's efforts to provide reservation to the Maratha community, including the appointment of a commission to prove their economic and social backwardness. He also mentioned that 5,000 appointment letters were given after the Supreme Court canceled the Maratha reservation.
In response to Manoj Jarange's threat of a hunger strike, Shinde acknowledged Jarange's work for the Maratha community but urged him to recognize the government's efforts in granting reservation without canceling existing reservations for OBC and other communities.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence in finding a solution within the legal framework, saying, "We are trying hard to maintain this reservation. But Jarang should know who is not allowing them to survive."
