Maharashtra Students Can Now Study at Top Global Universities Without Going Abroad!

2 May 2025, Waves Summit : The dream of Maharashtra’s youth to study abroad will now be fulfilled right in Navi Mumbai. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that world-class universities will be established in the upcoming ‘EduCity’ in Navi Mumbai. He also expressed optimism about the boost to the film industry through newly signed agreements.
₹8,000 Crore Worth of Deals
During the ‘Wavez 2025’ summit, agreements worth ₹8,000 crores were signed in the presence of the Chief Minister.
Key highlights include:
1. Through CIDCO:
- Partnerships with the University of York (UK) and the University of Western Australia, each worth ₹1,500 crores.
- These universities will set up campuses in Navi Mumbai.
2. Through the Industries Department:
- A ₹3,000 crore deal with Prime Focus(for media ecosystem development).
- A ₹2,000 crore deal with Godrej (to build an AA Studio in Panvel).
CM Fadnavis stated, “EduCity will host the world’s best universities. With India opening its doors to global education, the youth’s dream of international-standard learning will come true.”
Boost to the Film Industry
- Prime Focus project expected to create 2,500 jobs (operational by 2025-26).
- Godrej’s studio will bring ₹2,000 crore investment and 2,500 jobs (fully operational by 2030).
Launch of ‘NIFTY Wavez Index’
NSE Indices introduced the ‘NIFTY Wavez Index’, covering 43 listed companies in media, entertainment, and gaming sectors, aiming to attract global investments.
Key Signatories:
- Vijay Singhal (CIDCO), Prof. Charlie Jeffery (University of York), Dr. Diane Smith-Gander (University of Western Australia).
The state government will provide full support for the implementation of these agreements.
