Review meeting at Sangli on the background of floods and heavy rains

Sangli: Heavy rains and floods in various parts of Maharashtra in the month of July have caused huge damage to agriculture, trade, industry and houses. We need to work on both immediate and far-reaching measures to prevent this from happening again. Priority will be given to permanent solutions to problems like floods. For flood management in the state, a plan will be prepared with the help of experts considering the diversion of flood water to drought prone areas, river confluence activities. Development work will be done keeping in view the future adverse effects. The plan will be prepared by taking tough decisions on issues like rehabilitation and encroachment, said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

After visiting the flood affected areas of Sangli district on the backdrop of floods and heavy rains, a review meeting was held at the Collectorate, Sangli.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the government is committed to rebuild the flood-hit people against the backdrop of the floods of 2019, Corona and now the floods of 2021. We will overcome this crisis with the participation of the people while maintaining balance in all matters.

Strictly enforce the rules if there are any shortcomings in the development so far in view of the recurring crises, how many days to draw lines like blue line, red line? The rules in that regard must also be enforced, he said.  In settlements where water is rising, It needs to be rehabilitated. Flood management must be planned. The pattern of rainfall is changing in a strange way and no one is escaping from it, thinking that with the changing climate, our lives also need to change.

The plan will be prepared with the help of experts to prevent disasters like floods. The suggestions made by various committees so far will be considered and implemented. The participation of the people and the people's representatives is essential for the implementation of the plan that we are preparing now. Development projects that have been implemented without considering the far-reaching consequences are coming to naught. Chief Minister Thackeray lauded the system for giving priority to the administration not to cause any loss of life in the face of the flood crisis while facing the Corona crisis, He also stressed the need to increase corona tests in Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri and other areas so that the corona crisis does not recur.

Stating that the state government is making every effort to rebuild the flood-hit area, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said the NDRF's criteria have become obsolete. It has requested the Central Government to change it. Even if the traders have taken out insurance, the question is when they will get a review from the insurance companies. Therefore, 50 per cent of the amount should be paid immediately, taking into account the review made by the revenue department. Banks should reduce interest rates. Thackeray also requested the Center to issue directions in this regard.
