Election Commission Directs Officials to Ignore 'Vote Theft' Allegations

Following Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s recent allegations of “vote theft” in India, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a strong advisory to all election officials. The Commission has urged them to remain unaffected by such statements and to perform their duties with fairness and integrity to uphold democracy.

Election Commission Directs Officials to Ignore 'Vote Theft' Allegations

In response to Rahul Gandhi’s remark, the Election Commission called the statements “irresponsible and baseless,” instructing all its officers not to pay attention to such comments. The ECI emphasized that such allegations have become a daily occurrence without any substantial proof. Therefore, officials must continue their work with full transparency and honesty, unaffected by political rhetoric.

EC Emphasizes Transparent and Credible Elections

The Commission reiterated that it is constantly monitoring the election process and taking all necessary steps to ensure elections remain transparent and credible. The statement came after Rahul Gandhi alleged that votes are being stolen in India, leading to diminishing public trust in the election system.

EC’s Response to Rahul Gandhi’s Claims:

  • The Election Commission sent Rahul Gandhi an email on June 12, 2025,  he did not respond.

  • A physical letter was also sent on the same date, no reply was received.

  • Rahul Gandhi has never written to the Commission regarding any election issue.

  • “It is strange that he is now making such absurd accusations and even trying to intimidate the Commission and its officials. This is condemnable,” the EC said.

The Commission added that it will disregard all such “irresponsible” statements and urged its officials to continue working impartially and transparently.

What Did Rahul Gandhi Say?

On July 23, Rahul Gandhi claimed that elections in India are being manipulated. He said the Congress party had conducted an in-depth study of one parliamentary seat in Karnataka and uncovered the entire mechanism of vote theft.

“We picked one seat in Karnataka and converted the voter list into a digital format, the process took six months. We then understood how votes are being stolen, who is doing it, and where the new voters are being brought from,” he claimed, adding, “We have documentary evidence and will present it before the public and the Election Commission.”

CM Siddaramaiah Backs Rahul, Claims Evidence Exists

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah supported Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, claiming that the Congress leader possesses concrete evidence of vote tampering during the Lok Sabha elections. He announced that Rahul will lead a protest in Bengaluru on August 5 and submit documents to EC officials.

Congress to Hold Protest in Bengaluru

According to CM Siddaramaiah, Congress will organize a protest in Bengaluru on August 5. The exact mode and location of the demonstration are yet to be finalized. Karnataka Deputy CM and state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar stated that the protest could be in the form of a rally, march, or sit-in, depending on legal and logistical considerations. A final decision is expected by Thursday.
