Jaipur : A virtual collaboration of top folk musicians took part today to raise awareness on the suffering of folk musicians of Rajasthan through their mesmerizing Rajasthan  folk music and dance performance under their social media campaign” Maru Mani”..

Rhythm of Rajasthani folk music brought flawless Rajasthani folk artists Kusum Kachwaha, Sakoor Khan Langa, Irfan Khan Langa, Safi Khan Langa and Hayat Khan Langa online on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. The event was held to create awareness about the problems these artists are facing because of COVID-19 lockdown.

These artists are the flag bearers for carrying on centuries old legacy of Rajasthani folk dance and music. The event attracted hundreds of viewers on Instagram,  Facebook and on LinkedIn and the numbers are growing. There are more events lined up and are being uploaded on social media handles of the NGO to keep their viewers posted. These posts and awareness campaigns will lead to raising funds for helping folk artists of Rajasthan to get back on their feet.

Commenting on the event, Mr. Kalyan Singh Kothari, Secretary of Lok Samvad Santhan said, “These artists have preserved the art for these years and now it is our duty along with the masses to help them preserve it by contributing to the cause through participating in our events and donations.

The Current generations of Rajasthan folk musicians are facing the greatest challenge in adoption to fast evolving digital technology and media to leverage their traditional skills – not just to survive but to flourish.Mr Kothari added that we would support these artists to market and promote themselves and their work through digital tools.

Their livelihood depended on tourists, live performances and concerts but due to the Coronavirus outbreak, their life has taken a toll. Lok Samvad Santhan is helping in raise help through crowd-funding along with the support from Rupayan Santhan, Jodhpur, (Research Partner), Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, Dwarka (New Delhi), (Social Media Campaign Partner), and UPES University, Dehradun as an academic partner Rupayan Santhan, Jodhpur, Research Partner, Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, Dwarka (New Delhi), Social Media Campaign Partner, and UPES University, Dehradun as an academic partner to address the needs and concerns of these traditional folk artists of desert districts of western Rajasthan.
