Kms. These Talukas are Baramati, Junnar, Ambegaon, Khed, Mawal, Mulshi, Velhe, Bhor, Purandhar, Haveli, Shirur, Daund, and Indapur.
Torrent has committed more than Rs. 600 crores for Phase I of the project and is working to connect more than 100,000 households, set-up more than 50 CNG stations and connect various industries and commercial establishments across the Geographical Area of Pune District. 5 CNG stations; one each in Shivane, Ranjangaon, Karla, Kikvi and Lonikand have already been operationalised under the brand name of “Pune Natural Gas” and the balance 45 CNG stations are progressively expected to be commissioned by March 2021.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said “Availability of Natural Gas in the region will encourage consumers to adopt this cleaner and cheaper fuel, thereby having a positive impact on the environment and benefiting the citizens at large. Government of India intends to increase the share of natural gas in India’s energy basket from 6% to 15% and in this context has already taken various steps to give an impetus to the CGD industry and also for making gas available at an affordable price to the common man. CGD is a critical utility, which requires many approvals for the laying of infrastructure, and I therefore urge the State Government to take steps to facilitate the faster implementation of CGD networks within the State”
Jinal Mehta, Director Torrent Gas, said “Torrent Group is committed to making natural gas widely available in Pune District at the earliest and we are confident that the availability of Natural Gas in the District shall provide a major boost to the socio-economic development of the entire District. The widespread availability of natural gas and CNG will reduce pollution in the district and lead to significant savings for families using CNG and industries using natural gas. It will also act as a catalyst for further economic development in the region.”
