Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani's sudden resignation

He resigned 15 months before the assembly elections

Gandhinagar / News Agency

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday called on Governor Acharya Devvrat and tendered his resignation to him. He told reporters after his resignation that he had resigned thinking that the path of development of Gujarat should be taken through new leadership, new ideas and new energy. He also clarified that he is ready to accept any responsibility given by the party in the future.

After Rupani's sudden resignation, there is curiosity as to who will be the next Chief Minister of Gujarat. Union ministers Mansukh Mandavia, Nitin Patel, CR Patil and Purushottam Rupala are in the running for the new chief ministership.

Although the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remained in power in Gujarat after Narendra Modi, no one has been able to complete his term as Chief Minister after him. Rupani was given the responsibility of Chief Minister for the second time in 2017. The reason for his sudden resignation, however, is not understood.
