Ban on Laser Lights During Ganesh Festival in Kolhapur; Demand to Ban DJs in Satara

In light of the potential harm laser lights can cause to the eyes—particularly the cornea and retina—the Kolhapur district administration has prohibited their use during the upcoming Ganesh Festival celebrations. The ban will be in effect from August 26 to September 6, as per the order issued by District Collector Amol Yedge under Section 163(1) of the Citizen Safety Code 2023.
The decision comes after incidents during last year’s Ganesh immersion procession, where several spectators suffered injuries to their eyes due to laser lights. To avoid a recurrence, the district administration has enforced this restriction and warned that legal action will be taken against violators.
Strong Demand for DJ Ban in Satara
Meanwhile, in Satara, there is a growing demand—especially from senior citizens—to ban DJ systems during Ganesh festivities and immersion processions. Known as a "city of pensioners," Satara has a significant population of elderly residents.
Concerns have been raised that the loud noise from DJ systems poses health risks to heart patients, the elderly, young children, and pregnant women. Citizens have formally appealed to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police to impose a strict ban on DJs during the celebrations in the interest of public health and safety.
