I would have given a slapp: Rane's tongue slipped

Mumbai / Correspondent

Criticizing Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for not remembering the country's Independence Day, Union Minister Narayan Rane lost his temper. "If I had been there, I would have given a slap," he said. His statement has caused a stir in political circles.

Speaking at the 'Jana Ashirwad Yatra' in Raigad district Rane said, the Chief Minister could not remember how much Independence Day the country has during his Independence Day speech. As he spoke, he turned around and questioned him. Criticizing that this is  shameful, Rane said that Thackeray would have been slapped for it.

Shiv Sena is reacting strongly to Rane's statement. In many places in Mumbai and the state, Shiv Sena leaders and activists have put up placards calling Rane a 'chicken thief'. About 50 years ago, Rane used to run a chicken shop in the Chembur area of Mumbai. Narayan Rane, who is currently in the Bharatiya Janata Party, was in the Shiv Sena for a long time. His political career started from Shiv Sena and he was also the Chief Minister during the tenure of BJP-Shiv Sena alliance.

To please the BJP leadership, Rane is criticizing the Shiv Sena leadership. His mental balance has deteriorated since he got a ministerial post in the Modi government. Shiv Sena's Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg MP Vinayak Raut has demanded that the Prime Minister should show him the door.
