Deshmukh in ED's office after court blow

Former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh appeared before the Enforcement Directorate after a court struck him down in a Rs 100 crore ransom case. Earlier, Deshmukh had avoided appearing for questioning even after being summoned at least four times by the central investigation agency.

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh had sent a letter to the Chief Minister's Office accusing Deshmukh of extortion. The ED is probing the case of Deshmukh holding some police officers by the hand and ordering them to collect Rs 100 crore per month from bars and hotels in Mumbai. This case has forced Deshmukh to step down as a minister.

Despite issuing four summons earlier, Deshmukh did not turn up at the ED's office for questioning. On his behalf, a request was made to the Mumbai High Court to quash the summons issued by the ED. However, the High Court rejected the request last week. Therefore, Deshmukh has finally had to appear for questioning.
