Beed | Farmer Dies by Suicide Due to Loan Harassment; BJP Leader Among Accused
Beed, Correspondent
A shocking incident has come to light from Beed district, where a farmer died by suicide after allegedly being harassed by a moneylender. The deceased has been identified as Ram Fatale. A case has been registered against Dr. Lakshman Jadhav, his wife, and seven others in connection with the incident.
According to reports, around seven years ago, Fatale had borrowed ₹2.5 lakh from Dr. Jadhav at an exorbitant monthly interest rate of 10%. Though he regularly repaid ₹25,000 every month, Fatale was allegedly subjected to continuous threats and mental harassment by Jadhav and his associates.
In a shocking claim, it is reported that Jadhav went as far as to demand that Fatale "send his wife" to him if he was unable to repay the loan—causing severe emotional distress to the farmer. Unable to bear the pressure and humiliation, Fatale ended his life by hanging himself.
A case has been filed at Peth Beed Police Station. Out of the seven accused, three have been arrested, and search operations are underway to locate the others. Notably, the main accused, Dr. Jadhav, is a local office-bearer of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
This incident comes close on the heels of another similar case last month, where two individuals died by suicide under the burden of loan harassment, raising serious concerns about the growing menace of illegal moneylending in the region.
