The Rise of AI Revolution in Baramati: Sharad Pawar Guides Students at Vidya Pratishthan’s Workshop
Baramati, June 20, 2025: At a one-day workshop organized by Vidya Pratishthan in Baramati on the theme ‘Career Opportunities and Prospects in Artificial Intelligence,’ former Union Minister and senior leader Sharad Pawar interacted with students on the topic of ‘AI Revolution in Agriculture and Baramati’s Pioneering Initiatives.’ The workshop emphasized opportunities in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the initiation of world-class research from the rural region of Baramati.
Vidya Pratishthan’s Proud Journey
In his address, Sharad Pawar reviewed the journey of Vidya Pratishthan, which began with a simple dream in 1972 and has grown into a prestigious institution offering education in diverse fields such as arts, science, commerce, engineering, law, and biotechnology. “Our aim was to provide rural Maharashtra’s farmers, laborers, women, and marginalized students with the same opportunities as those in Pune and Mumbai,” Pawar stated. He expressed pride in the institution’s success in shaping the futures of many students, citing the example of Karishma Inamdar, a student from a modest background who is now working as a scientist at NASA.
AI Mission and Baramati’s ‘Center of Excellence
Referring to the establishment of a private ‘Center of Excellence’ in Baramati under the Government of India’s ‘AI Mission,’ Pawar announced that “the center will be completed by Diwali, establishing Baramati as a hub of innovation on the national map.” The center will provide hands-on education in AI, robotics, and machine learning while promoting startups and research.
AI Revolution in Agriculture: Partnership with Microsoft and Oxford
Pawar highlighted the ‘Farm of the Future’ project, launched in collaboration with Microsoft and Oxford University at Baramati’s Agricultural Science Center. Microsoft appointed 71 experts, and Oxford University recruited 13 specialists for this project, which led to the development of an innovative curriculum for using AI in agriculture. “This curriculum will produce a confident student community capable of representing India on the global stage,” Pawar affirmed.
Digital Revolution in Rural Areas
“Digital revolution is not confined to skyscrapers; it thrives in rural soil as well,” Pawar said, commending Baramati’s initiatives. Vidya Pratishthan has successfully executed projects such as the Bharat Forge-supported ‘Youth Development Center,’ IoT-based Smart Helmet Detection System, wheelchairs, autonomous delivery robots, food waste management systems, and digital manufacturing automation. These efforts have positioned Baramati at the forefront of technological advancement.
Inspiring Students
Addressing the students, Pawar emphasized that India has a significant opportunity to lead in emerging technologies like AI. “With our talented IT and computer science workforce, we can transform Baramati into a ‘Mecca of Modern Technology,’” he urged. He also praised the contributions of teachers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and local residents in supporting these initiatives.
Commitment to Shaping the Next Generation
“This center will address current challenges and shape the next generation. It will play a crucial role in brightening India’s future,” Pawar said, expressing gratitude to all who supported Vidya Pratishthan’s efforts. He underscored that Baramati’s initiatives are driving a technological revolution in rural India.
Conclusion
The workshop at Vidya Pratishthan has positioned Baramati as a leader in the field of artificial intelligence. By providing AI opportunities to students in agriculture, healthcare, law, commerce, and arts, this initiative will open new avenues for rural India.
