Ole Miss Freshman Football Player Corey Adams Fatally Shot in Tennessee
CORDOVA, TENN. — July 21, 2025
Ole Miss freshman football player Corey Adams, 18, was tragically killed in a shooting Saturday night in Cordova, Tennessee, a suburb just outside of Memphis.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Adams was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other individuals were also shot outside a residence and transported to area hospitals. Authorities confirmed that none of the other victims are in critical condition.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made as of Monday morning.
Adams, a defensive lineman from New Orleans, had recently enrolled at the University of Mississippi this past winter. He was a standout athlete at Edna Karr High School, where he earned all-state honors twice and was recognized as one of the top defensive prospects in Louisiana.
In a statement shared on social media, Ole Miss Athletics expressed deep sorrow over the loss:
“While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”
Authorities said deputies responded to reports of a shooting late Saturday night. A vehicle was stopped at an intersection near the scene, where deputies found Adams and immediately administered life-saving efforts. He was officially declared deceased by arriving emergency medical personnel from the Shelby County Fire Department.
The sheriff’s office has asked anyone with information to come forward as detectives continue to piece together the events that led to the deadly shooting.
Adams' death marks a devastating loss for both the Ole Miss football family and the broader community who had followed his promising young career.
